Tryout Format
Each player will be evaluated by at least one coach from their age group, at least three coaches from different age groups and at least one member of the baseball executive board. Players will be given a score in each of the following skills categories:
Hitting
Infield
Outfield
Pitching
Category scores will then be weighted and totaled to create an overall player score. This overall player score is a starting point for age level coaches to select rosters.
Age level head coaches make roster decisions which are then brought to the baseball executive board for discussion and final approval by vote.
We look forward to seeing everyone and are designing the schedule to accommodate as many players as possible. We understand immovable conflicts do occur, and we will only offer a make-up tryout dates (TBD) for those with special circumstances.
Here is some information about what Medford travel baseball entails:
- The travel season typically begins in January with indoor training sessions. Outdoor play typically begins April 1 and ends early/mid July.
- Travel is mostly local and consists of play in the South Jersey Baseball League (SJBL) as well as at least three weekend tournaments held in neighboring towns.
- Teams also schedule weekday and weekend practices and scrimmages.
- Skill level and competition is higher at the travel level. While our teams compete to win at local and state tournaments, the overall emphasis of the Medford Baseball program is player development and having fun.
