RULES - Keeping the game fair

The rules of lacrosse govern games and equipment used. US Lacrosse, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the NCAA write rules for our sport, as per the following breakout. The organizations often work together on rule development and player safety.

Equipment

US Lacrosse publishes an Equipment Fitting Guide to help provide first-time buyers, parents and players with suggested guidelines in purchasing equipment. Designed to help both the boys’ and girls’ youth player, the guide explains how lacrosse equipment should feel when properly worn.

Age & Eligibility

US Lacrosse establishes eligibility guidelines to promote a safe and sportsmanlike environment. US Lacrosse believes that leagues, associations, and other organizers of youth lacrosse should provide playing opportunities that, as much as possible, aim to establish a "level playing field" among players of similar age.

Compete With Class

US Lacrosse encourages all lacrosse players, coaches, officials and spectators to "COMPETE WITH CLASS and HONOR THE GAME" by adhering to the spirit of the rules, especially those that minimize risk for players and those that pertain to participant sportsmanship.
