For the fourth time in seven years, Westchester Jewish Center is the top team in the Westchester Hebrew Softball League. WJC beat B'nai B'rith 10-7 to cap off an undefeated ride through the A/B playoff bracket.

The weather for the finals was quite crisp -- game time temperature was 45 degrees -- though the defense was less so. The teams made miscues that gave their opponent extra baserunners or just extra bases. All three pitchers deserved to give up fewer runs than they allowed. Jon Nissenblatt and Adam Eis pitched well for WJC, and Dan Forrester did the same for B'nai.

The scoring flip-flopped all morning. Both teams held leads and both teams came back. The big blow of the game was a bases-loaded triple hit by Isaac Hattem. B'nai played him deep but Isaac launched it deeper. Murray Goldfarb and Greg Pastor had multi-hit games for B'nai.

In the end, Adam settled down and the defense behind him tightened up. WJC allowed no runs over the last three innings, in large part thanks to a full-speed running catch by Mike Shapiro in left field to secure the last out of the game.

B'nai has the most regular-season WHSL wins of any team this decade. But with this finals victory, WJC has clinched the title of most championships in the 2010s. Thanks to all for a great season, and see you in 2019.
