EB Softball Major League House Rules
EAST BOSTON GIRLS SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Major League (8-12 Year Old) Division
May 12th, 2018
1. Game Length/Weather Cancellations
a. Games will be 6 innings.
b. All 5:30 games will start on time unless the umpire is late.
c. No inning will start after 1 hour and 45 minutes have been played. If the final out of an inning is made prior to 1 hour and 45 minutes having elapsed the next inning will start. The home team will only come to bat after the time limit has elapsed if they are trailing in the score.
d. If a game does not reach 4 full innings due to time limit and it has not been delayed due to weather the game will be considered a full game.
2. Rain/Inclement Weather
b. In the event of rain a game will be rescheduled and restarted at the exact point it was ended, if at least 1 inning has been completed.
c. If a game ends due to rain and 1 full inning has not been completed the game will be started from the beginning.
3. Number Of Players In The Line-up/Substitutions
a. A team may play with NO MORE than 10 players defensively.
b. No game can begin with less than 8 players defensively.
c. If a team has 8 players in the line-up, the 9th slot in the line-up will become an automatic out each time through the batting order.
d. A team will forfeit the game if they have fewer than 6 players and may not borrow players.
e. A team having 6 or 7 players may borrow 2 or 1 players respectively to reach 9 players. The team will take an out if only 8 players.
f. “Substitute player(s)" from another team must be from the same age division or a lower division and be capable to play at level of play,
g. When a substitute player(s) is/are used they must play the outfield and be placed at the bottom of the batting order.
4. Continuous Batting Order
a. All teams must use a continuous batting order.
b. If any player leaves before the game has been completed for any reason other than an injury that takes place on the field will become an automatic out in the batting order.
5. Mandatory Playing Time
a. All players must play 2 full innings defensively.
b. If a player does not play 6 outs defensively for any reason the player must start the next game and bat at the top of the line-up.
6. Pitching
a. One player may not pitch more than 6 innings in one week. (Sunday – Saturday)
b. During playoffs, one player may not pitch more than 6 innings in a series, even if the series spans a weekend.
c. If a pitcher hits 3 batters in 1 inning or 5 batters in a game she must be removed for the remainder of that game.
d. Once a pitcher throws 1 pitch it constitutes as a full inning of pitching.
7. Number of Coaches
a. NO MORE THAN 3 COACHES/MANAGERS will be allowed on the field at any one time during a game. If you have a 4th coach and they want to come out of the stands to warm a pitcher up in the bullpen that is fine, however as soon as that is finished they must leave the field immediately.
8. Mercy Rule
a. The Mercy Rule takes effect after 4 full innings have been played and 1 team is ahead by 15 runs.
9. The 6 Run Rule
a. No team may score more than 6 runs in an inning, unless there is a continuous play.
b. A continuous play is over when the Umpire deems the play to be over (when the pitcher has possession of the ball on the mound).
c. The 6 Run Rule may not be used in the 6th inning of a game if it has not been used earlier in the game.
10. Bunting/Stealing
a. Bunting/Slap hitting is allowed
b. Stealing is allowed. Runners may take off for a steal only once the ball has reached home plate.
c. If a player leaves early the team will be given 2 warnings in one game. The next offense committed by that team with a runner leaving early may be called out.
d. Stealing home is NOT Allowed. However, if the catcher makes a play on any runner (throwing the ball) then that player is allowed to make an attempt at stealing home.
11. Dead Ball/Out-of-Play
a. The following areas will be considered out of play:
I. In, on, or behind the dugout.
II. Outside the fenced area within the field.
12. Player Playoff Eligibility
a. Players must play in at least 50% of their team's games in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs.
b. There is absolutely NO BORROWING in the playoffs.
13. No Food is Allowed in the Dugout
a. Drinks are allowed but there is no food allowed.
14. Code of Conduct
a. In the event that a Coach/Manager/Player/Parent is ejected from a game by an umpire and the ejection is deemed valid by the EBGS Board that coach/player will automatically serve a 1 game suspension.
b. Any Coach/Manager/Player/Parent who is ejected from a game MUST leave the park and may not remain in the vicinity to observe the remainder of the game.
c. If an ejected Coach/Manager/Player/Parent:
I. continues to argue, incites others, otherwise escalates the situation,
II. does not leave the field immediately or refuses to leave the vicinity,
the game will be called and the offending party's team will forfeit the game.
d. Suspended Coach/Manager/Player MUST attend a meeting before the EBGS Board within 72 hours to determine whether the offense warrants additional disciplinary action. Failure to appear at the time designated by the Board will result in an indefinite extension of the suspension.
