Basketball Season Changes

Published by Adam Yansick
Oct 20, 2019

The 2019-2020 Basketball season is going to be the 5th year of Pal-Riv AA basketball.  As we had shared earlier, we explored the idea of moving away from Riverline because of the issues we had the past few years with organization of that league.  We had several incidents of teams arriving to games only to find out the other team was not there.  Additionally, other teams were not reporting their scores which resulted in the standings and seedings being incorrect at the end of the season.  We have decided to move the teams to South Jersey Boys Basketball League (Boys) and Inter-County Basketball League (Girls).  Please see below for how this will impact your age level.  All registrations will be done online at www.palrivaa.com.

BOYS Teams

·        We will be playing in the South Jersey Boys Basketball League.  This will be a step up in competition, but there are A, B and C levels so we will be entering at the B and C levels as we transition over.

·        There will be 16 games per team, with 8 home (Palmyra Community Center) and 8 away games.

·        The teams in this league are from Cinnaminson, Delran, Haddonfield, Haddon Twp, Lumberton, Moorestown, Mt. Laurel, Marlton, Medford, Seneca, Pemberton, Vorhees, Audobon, Cherry Hill, Winslow and Washington Township.

·        The increase in number of games (10 to 16), higher per game ref fees and team registration fees, requires that we increase the registration fees.  The Pal-Riv board is helping to offset some of these costs for this initial year, but the registration is going to increase to $130 per boy at each age level.

·        The levels are 4th Grade and under, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade and 8th Grade.  If we do not have full teams (8-12 kids) at any one age level, we will need to combine grades.

·        The league requires more stringent registration and documentation of players (similar to soccer for those who are soccer players).  You will need to first register with Pal-Riv AA and then also create an account on sjbbl.org and register with a birth certificate and a copy of a report card (once they are issued).  The purpose of the report card is to confirm the child’s school.  Only kids that go to schools that are part of the Palmyra High School sending district are eligible to play for Pal-Riv per their league rules.

GIRLS Teams

·        We will be playing in the Inter-County Basketball League.  This will be a step up in competition, but there are A and B levels so we will be entering at the B levels as we transition over.

The Pal-Riv board is helping to offset some of these costs for this initial year, but the registration is going to increase to $115 per girl at each age level. (The team registration fees are lower, so that is why the girl’s registration fee is lower than the boys)

·        The levels are 4th Grade and under, 5th Grade, 6th Grade, 7th Grade and 8th Grade.  If we do not have full teams (8-12 kids) at any one age level, we will need to combine grades.

·        Similar to the boys, you will need to first register with Pal-Riv AA and then also create an account on icblnj.org and register.  However, they do not have the same strict requirements for birth certificates and report cards.  The same rules apply around sending districts, but they do not require the same documentation.

We are behind from a timing perspective and need to move quickly to confirm the teams we have at each level for boys and girls so they can make the schedules.  The registration period with Pal-Riv AA will only be open for two weeks and will close on Saturday, November 2nd.
