2016-2017 Winter League Registration

Welcome to Mt. Laurel Basketball on-line registration for the 2016-2017 Winter League season. Registration will open on September 20th. We run instructional leagues for Kindergarten to 2nd grade, intramural leagues for 3rd grade and up, and travel teams in 4th to 8th grades. We also offer a Challenger program for players with special needs who wish to play basketball.

After reviewing this document, if you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us via e-mail at mtlaurelbasketball@comcast.net.

Program:

Instructional Leagues - Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades- teams meet twice a week, usually once on Saturdays and one other day Sunday through Friday. Usually Saturday start times run from 830-530, Sunday start times run from 12:00-5:00 and Mon to Fri start times are either 6:15 & 7:15. Days and times will vary from week so all teams can meet with different teams each session. About half the session is dedicated to skills and drills and half the session is a scrimmage situation. 2nd graders will have a ref for their last 4 sessions and the season ends with a skills day on the 1st Saturday in March. Sessions begin the first weekend of December

Intramural Leagues - 3rd to 12th grade teams meet twice a week, usually once on Saturdays and one other day Sunday through Friday. Usually Saturday start times run from 830-630, Sunday start times run from 12:00-8:30pm and Mon to Fri start times run between 6:00 & 7:30 for younger grades and may start at 830 for our high school leagues. Days and times will vary from week so all teams can play against different teams each session. Teams will play between 10 and 14 regular season games plus playoffs. The season begins the 1st weekend of December and usually ends the 2ndweekend of March.

NOTE TO HAINESPORT RESIDENTS:

Due to a change in the weekend gym usage policy in Hainesport, it has become necessary for the school board to charge us a fee to use the Hainesport gym on the weekends. We need to use the gym in Hainesport in order to accept Hainesport children in our program and last year had 5 hours of time on the weekends. In order to fund this new charge, we need to charge a $25.00 facilities fee to all Hainesport players. Hainesport residents please be sure to select the correct payment box when you register or we will have to void your registration and issue a refund to allow you to register correctly a 2nd time.

Due to the huge administrative burden check acceptance via mail requires, we only accept payment via either credit or debit card. You will NOT be able to register on our website without completing the payment process.

We will hold an in-person registration night in late October for anyone who must pay by check. We will send notices out as soon as we secure the site for that registration night.

Travel Team Notes: Travel tryouts will be held during the first two ot three weeks of October and all players must be registered in order to tryout. Tryout dates are posted on this website. We offer teams in grades 4 to 8 for boys and girls. The leagues where our travel teams play, will only allow players who are geographically eligible to play at Lenape High School to play on one of our travel teams. Hainesport residents not eligible to try out for a Mt. Laurel travel team should try out for the Lumberton travel basketball program.

If your child wishes to play on a travel team, he or she must attend at least one tryout, although it is best to attend both nights. Travel teams require a greater financial commitment which can range from $70-$200 per player, depending on the number of tournaments a team elects to participate in.

Special Requests note:

For our kindergarten through 2nd grade instructional leagues we try to honor as many special requests as possible in terms of a player wanting to be on the same team with a specific friend or play for a specific coach. However, it is not always possible for us to honor all requests. For 3rd grade and up we form intramural teams based on a player draft and we do not take specific friend or coach requests. One exception to this is that we will try to put siblings in the same grade on the same team if the parent requests it and as long as it is feasible and does not create any problems.

We receive many requests for children to play up into the next grade. We allow children who are age appropriate for the next grade and who have traditionally played up to play into the next grade. This usually pertains to children who attended Pre-1st grade but it could pertain to children who waited to start Kindergarten until they were 6 years old.

If you have any problems with this on-line registration process, please contact us via e-mail at mtlaurelbasketball@comcast.net

FINAL MESSAGE

The schedule of what teams and leagues are playing on what nights will not be completed until very close to the beginning of the season. Our league commissioners usually try to get a December schedule out first late November/early December, then send out the January/February/March schedule some time later in December. Our younger grades will begin their sessions on Saturday 12/3 and you should be contacted by your coach by Wednesday 11/30. Older grades may start later than 12/3. The start up process of forming teams, setting schedules, and contacting players is very time consuming and we appreciate your patience in this matter.
