SENIORS || Benkert Abdija returns to Football as a Coach by joining Eastern United Coaching Staff

Eastern United FC is delighted to announce that Benkert Abdija will join the First Team Coaching Staff for the reminder of the 2023 season.

Benkert Abdija, a name less familiar in the soccer circles here in South Australia, has quietly built a pleasing career in the world of football. Starting at a young age, Abdija's journey took him through prestigious youth clubs in Italy, where he honed his skills and prepared for the challenges that lay ahead. From playing for renowned teams like Grosseto Calcio and Siena Calcio in his junior years to showcasing his talents in regional leagues, Abdija's path highlights his dedication and determination to succeed.

After his time at Grosseto, Abdija's potential caught the attention of Siena Calcio, a club competing in Serie A at the time. Siena Calcio offered a higher level of competition and a platform for Abdija to showcase his abilities against some of Italy's best young players. This opportunity allowed him to further elevate his game, as he trained and played alongside talented peers, under the guidance of top-level coaches.

Following his junior years at Siena and Grosseto, Abdija made the transition to first-team football. He embarked on a new chapter, joining teams competing in Serie D and Eccellenza, which are considered the pinnacle of regional football in Italy. These leagues serve as a stepping stone to the professional ranks, offering a highly competitive environment for talented players to showcase their skills.

In 2009, Benkert Abdija proudly donned the Albanian National jersey as he represented his country at the under 17's level in the UEFA European U17 Championship qualifiers. Starting in all three qualifying matches, Abdija showcased his talent and made a lasting impact on the field. His performances against Hungary, Slovenia, and Luxembourg showcased his skill and culminated in a remarkable goal in the 61st minute.
Representing his country at the international level was a proud moment for Abdija, the UEFA European U17 Championship qualifiers laid the foundation for his future endeavors in the sport. It further fueled his determination to continue honing his skills and pursuing a career in football. The lessons learned and the memories forged during his time representing Albania undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping him into the player and person he is today.

In 2020,
Benkert Abdija embarked on a new chapter in his soccer career by venturing to Australia. Joining Adelaide Olympic in the National Premier Leagues (NPL), Abdija quickly established himself as a valuable asset to the team. Over the course of three seasons, he not only contributed to Adelaide Olympic's success but also played a pivotal role in their impressive cup run, which included a memorable quarter-final match against Adelaide United FC.


One of the standout moments of Abdija's time with Adelaide Olympic came during their impressive cup run. The team's remarkable journey saw them reach the quarter-finals of the Australia Cup, an achievement that captured the attention of soccer enthusiasts across the nation. In a highly anticipated match, Adelaide Olympic faced off against Adelaide United FC, a professional club competing in the top-tier A-League. Abdija's involvement in that match demonstrated his composure and skill, as he played a key role in challenging Adelaide United FC's defense. While Adelaide Olympic ultimately fell short, the experience of competing against top-level opposition showcased Abdija's ability to rise to the occasion and perform against higher-ranked teams. FC.

Abdija'sdecision to join Eastern United's coaching staff was influenced by the shared values and aspirations between him and Manager Gabriel Markaj.
