Game Day Volunteering - info, basics, examples, etc
This form serves as the central source of information regarding MOFC Game Day volunteering.
When registering your child for our program, the Volunteer Obligations section (located at the bottom of the first page and continuing onto the back of the waiver) required you to indicate one of two options:
- Commit to fulfilling your volunteer obligation, or
- Opt to pay the Volunteer Opt-Out Fee instead.
If you chose and have paid the Opt-Out Fee for the current season, no further information in this form applies to you.
If you committed to fulfilling your volunteer obligation, the following information is intended for you.
Highlights:
- The only families exempt from volunteer obligations are those who have paid the $100 opt out fee for the current season. This fee is in addition to registration fees.
- Volunteer Obligations are strictly for home games located at Middleton High School. See below for more information.
- Volunteer Obligations is each family is to volunteer one shift at two separate home game days. Examples below.
- Volunteer shifts are sent out via SignUp Genius for each home game
- As soon as we have the home game day schedules, there will be a SignUp Genius. This is out of our hands as Boise is the one who makes the schedules.
- Obligations are to be filled by someone 18+ years old. Explanation below.
- Volunteer shifts range in time periods. See below for more information.
- Volunteers are to sign in at the concessions stand before each shift. Failure to sign in will only count against you. See below for more information.
- Head Coaches & Assistant Coaches family volunteer obligations. See below for more information.
- Volunteer Shifts are Concessions, BBQ Master, Blue Vest Personnel, Clean Up Crew, Set Up, and Chain Gang. Please see below for more information.
2. Strictly Home Games; Volunteer obligations are fulfilled only at Middleton High School during MOFC home games. If you choose to volunteer at an away game, it absolutely counts toward you being a good person—but unfortunately, it does not count toward your MOFC volunteer requirement. Our focus is on ensuring we have enough support at home games, and tracking volunteering outside of our field is extra stress we simply don’t have the authority or capacity to manage.
Also, some other clubs may give parents a hard time about “needing to step up” at their events. Please remember, when we are at an away game, we are their guests. Their volunteer needs are their issue—not ours.
3. Volunteer Day Examples: Each family is to volunteer one shift at two separate home game days. Example A: Game Day #1 – Mom signs up on SignUp Genius to volunteer as Blue Vest Personnel from 1:15pm-3:30pm. Mom physically signs in at the concessions stand at her shift time. Game Day #2 – Dad signs up on SignUp Genius to volunteer as part of the Chain Gang from 11:00am-1:00pm. Dad physically signs in at the concessions stand at his shift time. This would complete the volunteer obligation for this family.
Example B: Game Day #3 – Mom signs up on SignUp Genius for her 17-year-old son to volunteer for chain gang with dad, taking 2 of the 3 chain gang spots. While this is acceptable since the legal guardian is present with the older son, this would only count as one of the volunteer obligations. The family would still need to volunteer on a separate game day to fulfill their obligation.
Example C: Game Day #1 – Dad signs up on SignUp Genius to volunteer as BBQ master from 1:15pm-3:30pm and signs Mom up for Concessions for the same time period, 1:15pm-3:30pm. While this is acceptable, this would only count as one of the volunteer obligations. The family would still need to volunteer on a separate game day to fulfill their obligation.
Example D: Game Day #2 – Dad signs up on SignUp Genius to volunteer as Clean Up Crew from 12:00pm-12:30pm. Day of, Dad sends 16-year-old daughter to fulfill the obligation. This is not acceptable, the daughter would be turned away, and the volunteer obligation would still be expected to be fulfilled.
6.Obligations are to be filled by someone 18+ years old; This is plain and simple rule we follow so as not to put anyone at risk. We understand not all kids are alike and some are more responsible than others, however, other adults fulfilling their obligation are not babysitters and it is still a huge liability. Please refer to the above, Volunteer Day Examples, Example B, for the only exception to this rule.
7.Volunteer Time Shifts: Volunteer shifts range from 30 minutes to two hours. Depending on the availability of shifts on SignUp Genius, will depend on the amount of time spent. Shifts are all first come, first serve. If you would like to review the current sign-ups on SignUp Genius, please use your web browser and go to www.signupgenius.com, select the search magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the webpage, enter our email address, middletonofc@gmail.com and you’ll be redirected to our current sign-ups.
8.Signing in before your shift: All volunteers must sign in at the concessions stand before their scheduled shift. Failure to sign in will result in your shift not being credited toward your volunteer obligation.
At the concessions stand, there will be a clipboard with a copy of the SignUp Genius for that game day. Please sign next to your name and check in with Stephanie to confirm.
Telling your coach or team mom afterward that you volunteered—without having signed in—will no longer be accepted. This is a simple step, and we expect everyone to follow it.
9.Coaches & Assistant Coaches Volunteer Obligations; MOFC greatly appreciates the time, energy, and commitment our head coaches dedicate to their teams. On home game days, their responsibilities often extend well beyond coaching as they volunteer before or after their own games. Because of this extra commitment, head coaches’ families are not expected to complete additional volunteer shifts. Of course, if they choose to help, their support is always welcomed and appreciated.
Assistant Coaches (ACs) are also an important part of MOFC, helping to support both players and head coaches. While their responsibilities are not as extensive as those of a head coach, their contribution is valued. For this reason, AC families are expected to meet the same volunteer requirements as all other families: signing up through SignUp Genius and completing one shift at two separate home game days.
If an Assistant Coach commits the same level of time on home game days as a head coach, their family’s volunteer obligation will be considered fulfilled
10.Volunteer Shifts Explained:
- Concessions: working in the concession stand selling food and apparel items.
- BBQ Master: Grill hot dogs, hamburgers, and cheeseburgers for concessions.
- Chain Gang: Stands on the sidelines with the signal poles for the duration of the game.
- Set Up: Helping set up and get ready for game day; hanging banners, checking the grounds, etc.
- Clean Up: Walking the grounds, cleaning up any trash, and making the stadium and parking lot look like we were never there.
- Blue Vest Personnel: Greeting and directing people to which field they will be on, Direct players, opposing teams, and cheerleaders where to go and get the chain gang set up.
The above information is intended to serve as a guide for all Volunteer Obligation information. If your question was not answered in the above form, please reach out to your team mom for clarification.
