Travel Basketball is open to all girls in grades 3-8 who are looking for a more competitive basketball experience. You must be registered for Recreation Basketball to participate in Travel. Anyone registered for Recreation Basketball must attend games. Registering and paying your fee does not qualify. This is not fair to your teammates nor the coaches who have taken the time to select teams based on all children who have signed up. If you are in Grade 6-8 and are on the roster for the Northvale School Team, you are not required to play Rec. A refund will be issued if you choose not to play. 

Travel games run from early January through the end of March. There may or may not be a game or two scheduled in mid-December. Games are scheduled by a Travel League. Dates and times are determined by the league. Northvale Recreation does not make the schedule. Most games will be played M-F with some Saturday & Sunday games. Most towns you will play are local, but there will be times you will travel 30-40 minutes depending on the flight your team is entered in to. Grade 3 does not have playoffs. There are standings which are used to determine flighting for next season. Please note equal playing time is not guaranteed in this program. A travel uniform (Jersey & Shorts) is required to play. No registrations for Winter Travel will be taken after October 24th. 

Important: Tryouts may be held based on registration numbers. You must register your child with Northvale. Should there not be enough players to form a team, we will advise and provide another option. Payment will not be required at time of registration. Invoices will be sent if there are enough players to form a team. 

BTBL Rules regarding tryouts and playing for another town: Bergen Travel Basketball League is a town league. To play for a BTBL team you must live within the town you are playing for. Exceptions: you can play for a town where you are full time student; you can play for a town which you do not live in but where your town and the town you play for share their basketball recreation programs. This does not apply with Northvale. With BTBL Director permission and Northvale Commissioner permission, you can play for a team in a different town if your town is in BTBL but doesn't have a team in your age group (Free Agent) or you are cut from your town team (NOTE: If a town cuts kids from their own town you most likely will not be allowed to play for that town). If a player's town doesn't have a travel program or has a program but there is no team in your grade, you can play for a town in BTBL provided the player's town goes to the same high school. No team can accept any player from another town if they cut anyone from their town; player's from a non BTBL town who has a travel program which they are eligible for cannot play for a BTBL team in lieu of or in addition to their home town team; players from a non BTBL town who play for their town cannot play in the BTBL in any grade. If a player lives in a town who participates in the BTBL and is a full time student in a different town, it is the home town's choice to have the player play for their town or to clear the player to play for the town where they go to school.
