On the Square Sports Academy Overview Each team must consist of no more than 6 players and no less than 5 on the court. Teams will be expected to start and end on time. Teams will have the allotted amount of time to play 1 match (set of 5) for a total of 5 possible points. All games will be rally-scoring. Matches will consist of 4 games to 21 (win by 2) cap at 25 and the 5th game to cap at 21. Teams will forfeit the first set if enough players are not present. Captains can choose to play a player down as long as both teams agree until all players arrive. Games & Game Times Matches will be played within the allotted time of 90 minutes. (warm up time included). 6:00pm, 7:30pm and 9:00pm are the time slots. At the beginning of each session teams can state a preference of early or late games, I will do my best to accommodate your teams’ requests. There is no designated “warm up” time, teams will have to decide if they wish to warm up or not. The longer the team takes to warm up the less time they may have to complete their match. Matches need to start and end on time to respect everyone’s time. The first 4 games are played to 21 (win by 2) cap at 25 and the 5th game will be played to cap at 21. Rally/speed scoring will be enforced. Teams will forfeit sets if not all teams are present at the agreed time. Captains can agree to play on as long as safe to do so. If the 5th set starts with less than 15 minutes remaining, the 5th game may be played to cap at 15 points. Team Size & Player Eligibility Each Captain is responsible for the eligibility of their team members. All players must be at least 18 years of age. Teams must have a minimum of 5 players and a max of 6. Each team must have 1 male and 2 females to start each set. A maximum of two males are permitted in the front row at a time. You may have up to 10 on your rosters. All rosters need to be finalized by the second week and cannot be added later. ALL players must sign the roster and waiver to play. Monday night leagues are more competitive, and players have college or coaching background. Mondays are considered our A league. Tuesday and Wednesday night leagues are considered B leagues, less competitive and more for fun. We ask that A players only play on Mondays. Only ONE A league player can play or sub for a B league night. IF both captains agree. If more than 1 A player is found playing on a B league night, the game will be forfeited. Absolutely, no A level players can sub on a tournament night (please read tournament section for further details). Captains and players must be on the “honor system” when putting teams together to keep skill levels in mind for each league. A level teams are reserved for Monday night. Waivers & payments In order to participate in the league, each participant must sign the team waiver/roster each session by the 2nd week of league. All payments must be paid in a lump sum by the team captain, cash or check preferred credit cards will have a processing fee. PAYMENTS AND ROSTERS MUST BE COMPLETE BY THE 2ND WEEK OF THE SEASON. Rules: USA volleyball rules apply unless stated otherwise. Refs & Standings: All games will be self-refed by the captains. Any poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated and will result in the forfeit of sets. Captains are responsible for recording the results of their games each set. Clipboards will be provided on each court to record scores timely. The updated standings will be posted weekly online as well with any news of changes. Captains are asked to share their phone numbers so management can communicate throughout the league. Forfeits Teams will forfeit the set if all players are not present at the start of allotted time. Short handed teams can play a legal game if two females are present. Exception: teams with 4 players can still play sets as long as both captains agree. Teams may pick up players during the regular season in order to field a full team, as long as they are on another current roster. No substitutes during tournament. Tournaments: Single elimination playoffs will start immediately after the regular season and will typically last two weeks. After teams have been seeded according to their standings, all captains will receive a text with the playoff schedule as well as it being posted online to be followed by all players. In playoffs, it is not uncommon to play more than one match in a given night. No substitutes will be allowed during playoffs. All players must have signed the roster and waiver. Players that play in the tournament must have played the majority of the league, there should be no surprise on tournament nights as too who you are competing against. Some nights with larger leagues, there may be an upper and lower bracket to keep the competition fair for all based on skill level. Playoffs are set up one of two ways depending on the league size: 1) BEST OF 3 -rally to 21 (win by 2), 45 minutes time slots. 2)BEST OF 5- Rally to 21 (win by 2), 1 hour time slots. Sportsmanship: The main idea of OTSSA Coed Volleyball leagues is to have fun and display healthy competition. We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved. Although games may become intense, you can still be respectful. With that being said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by staff will result in forfeiting that set and possible ejection from the match. Abuse of staff will not be tolerated. OTSSA reserves the right to remove a player from a match or league. Fighting will not be tolerated, and authorities will be called. Staff: To coordinate and run the league, our staff will be available at all times. Staff will help motivate games to start and end on time, as well as obtain payments and roster/waiver signatures. On tournament nights staff will complete roster checks to ensure that new players are not playing in the tournament. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact staff or management @ 219-973-9897 or 219-226-1130 Cancellations/weather: If the match absolutely needs to be cancelled, then OTSSA management will reach out to all captains to inform them of the change. It is then up to the captains to inform all the team players. If we do cancel, games will be made up for if time allows. In certain circumstances, OTSSA has the right to run a shortened schedule without a refund. OTSSA has the right to move games without compensation. Prizes: The winning team from tournaments will receive a prize. OTSSA will offer a rotation of different prizes of OTSSA gear.
