More About Me
I was introduced to soccer at an early age and really believed the game was supposed to be played barefoot until I was signed on to a league team. I played city leagues, county leagues and every season I could. In my youth the soccer field became a second home. There were so many fantastic coaches in those leagues. But I do remember experiencing a step change in my level of play around 14-16 years of age through the coaching and mentorship of Dennis Viollet (Manchester United). Around this same time period I had also excelled in the martial arts, specifically Tae Kwon Do. After being honored with a double belt advancement from Master Su Cha of Korea I was asked to begin competition sparring. I was faced with a choice, and I chose soccer. Soccer soon paid the first two years of college before transferring to University of Maryland where I completed a bachelor of engineering. After college, I continued to play and coach for the next 24 years. I've coached all five of our kids, AYSO teams ages 5 through 19, adult teams, co-ed teams, all-star teams, indoor teams; and certified as a referee along the way. As a youth, Soccer gave me an outlet for the teenager in me, but just as important it taught me respect for the coaches and referees, self-respect, discipline, and loyalty to my teammates. These same valuable life lessons are available through other sports too. Soccer just happened to be mine.
"Some” of my other favorite sports and engaging activities that do not require an on/off switch include racquetball, X-country skiing, cycling, hiking, pickle ball, gardening, and many more.
