With a prestigious 15-year professional career in South America, Coach Paulo competed at the highest levels, including Brazil’s world-renowned Superliga, one of the most competitive professional leagues in the world. His experience as a professional athlete shapes the advanced techniques, discipline, and intensity he teaches to young players today. Director, Founder, Owner & Father of NVA

Coach C is the heart and foundation of Nona Volleyball Academy. As the Director, Founder, Owner, and Lead Coach, he is committed to creating a positive, disciplined, and joyful volleyball environment where young athletes can grow not only as players, but as people. His philosophy centers on building discipline, determination, and strong character, without losing the excitement and love for the sport. Originally born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in Puerto Rico, Coach C brings a multicultural understanding to his leadership and training. He communicates fluently in English, Spanish, French, and Creole, allowing him to connect with a diverse and vibrant community of athletes and families. Outside of volleyball, he has served his community through his long-term professional role at Publix for over 22 years, working as a Grocery Manager. His passion for helping young people extends beyond the court through the creation of NVA and the No Child Left Behind Sports & Art Foundation, which promote opportunities for youth development through sports, discipline, and education. Coach C is a husband and proud father of two daughters, Karina and Katrina, who inspire his mission every day. His leadership philosophy is grounded in his faith, recognizing that God is the reason for every blessing and every achievement within the academy. Coach C’s vision is simple: develop strong athletes, build stronger human beings, and create a volleyball home where every child has a place to grow.

Lina Vanessa Rico is the driving force behind the growth, organization, and vision of Nona Volleyball Academy. As Owner, Co-Director, Founder, and proud volleyball mom, she has worked side-by-side with her husband, Coach C, to bring their shared dream to life: creating a volleyball home where every child, including their own daughters, could learn, compete, and grow. Together, they began this journey with a single team in 2012, composed of only six players — two of them being their daughters, Karina and Katrina. What started as a dream for their family has transformed into a thriving academy shaping athletes at every level. Lina was born in Colombia and raised in Miami, where sports became a central part of her life. She grew up playing volleyball and basketball, developing the passion, discipline, and leadership that she now instills in NVA athletes. Her professional background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering and specialized seminars in logistics and organizational management, skills that have made her the pillar and primary administrator of NVA for many years. Lina’s attention to detail, strong planning, and relentless commitment have helped build NVA into a well-structured and successful academy. She believes that sports build more than athletes—they build character, confidence, and dreams. Her mission is to guide families, support coaches, and create opportunities where young players can turn their dreams into reality, just as her own daughters inspired her to do. For Lina, NVA is more than a volleyball academy — it is family, faith, discipline, and legacy.

Coach Willie de Jesús brings more than 30 years of volleyball experience to Nona Volleyball Academy, spanning the professional, university, club, and governmental levels. A former professional volleyball player from Puerto Rico, Willie specializes in developing athletes from youth to professional competition, guiding them with discipline, motivation, and faith-centered leadership. Willie is married and the proud father of two children, and one of his greatest joys is watching his son compete in basketball. His ability to connect with families and athletes stems from his deep commitment not only to the sport but also to building character and values in every young player. Coach Zuliany – NVA Alumni & High-Performance Developer Coach Zuliany is a proud NVA Alumni who returned to her home academy to inspire the next generation of athletes. Since beginning her coaching career in 2023, she has dedicated herself to helping young players build strong fundamentals, confidence, and a competitive mindset. Through her detailed technical training and passion for athlete development, many of the players she has developed are now competing at the highest levels in NVA, earning spots on our top Premier and Elite teams. Her journey from player to coach reflects the values we teach at NVA—growth, commitment, and excellence. Coach Zuliany is an example of how our athletes can come full circle: trained at NVA, developed at NVA, and now building future stars at NVA.

Coach, National Competitor & High-Performance Trai

Coach Luis Maldonado brings an elite competitive background and a passion for athlete development to Nona Volleyball Academy. Originally from Bayamón, Puerto Rico, Luis began playing volleyball at age 14, quickly progressing through the sport and competing at the AAU Junior Olympics, one of the highest youth stages in the sport. With over 17 years of coaching experience, Luis has trained athletes at every level, focusing not only on technical execution but also on physical performance, strength, and on-court endurance. His leadership has helped multiple NVA teams earn USAV National Bids, preparing them to compete against the best in the country. Coach Luis joined NVA in 2018 and continues to elevate our athletes with his strong foundation in competitive volleyball, dynamic training style, and commitment to growth. He is a native Spanish speaker actively learning English, which allows him to connect with a diverse group of players and families. His mission is simple: develop disciplined, powerful, and competitive athletes ready to succeed at the highest levels.
