About Raleigh Rugby Football Club

Since our foundation in April 1981, the Raleigh Rugby Football Club (RRFC) has been dedicated to providing athletic and educational opportunities related to rugby for residents of the Triangle area. As a non-profit corporation recognized as a tax-deductible charitable organization by the IRS, our mission extends from the local community to national and international levels.

Our History

In 1996, Raleigh Rugby took a significant step forward by purchasing 15.5 acres of land, transforming it from red clay and pine trees into a premier rugby facility. By August 2001, we were proud to play on our first full-size pitch, complete with Bermuda sod and 60-foot tall posts. Shortly after, we added a second pitch, allowing us to host regional tournaments and select-side competitions regularly.

Who We Are Today

As one of the leading rugby clubs in the Southeast, RRFC competes in the North Carolina Youth Rugby Union and the Mid-Atlantic Conference. With over 150 active members across our Men’s, Women’s, Boys, and Girls divisions, we consistently field competitive teams and post winning records.

Rugby for All Ages

Rugby is more than just a sport—it’s a way of life. At Raleigh Rugby, we believe that the future of the game lies in our youth. That’s why we offer both touch and tackle rugby programs to introduce boys and girls of all ages to this exciting Olympic sport in a fun, safe environment.

  • Touch Rugby (Ages 4+ | K-3rd Grade)
  • 10U Coed (Ages 10 & Under)
  • 12U Coed (Ages 12 & Under)
  • 14U Boys (Ages 14 & Under)

  • High School Girls
  • High School Boys

Why Choose Rugby?

Safe.
Our youth programs start with non-contact touch rugby, ensuring that kids learn the game safely. Even in tackle rugby, safety is paramount. Studies show that rugby has a lower incidence of injury (10%) compared to NCAA college football (52%).

Fun.
Rugby is simple to learn, requires minimal equipment, and is incredibly fun. At RRFC, we encourage kids to enjoy the game while developing into the best rugby players they can be.

Competitive.
Founded in 1981, Raleigh Rugby is the oldest and most competitive rugby club in the area. Our players have opportunities to excel beyond the high school level, with many alumni playing in college national championships and gaining college scholarships. Our club is also home to the Triangle’s only high school girls rugby team, the Raleigh Cobras, and a nationally competitive Division 1 Women’s team, the Raleigh Venom.

A Legacy of Excellence

Since their inaugural season in 2002, the Venom have won four National Championships and consistently dominated USA Rugby’s Mid-Atlantic Senior Women’s Division I South. Our high school boys' program, the Raleigh Rattlesnakes, is the longest-running in the Triangle, providing players with top-tier coaching and the chance to develop their skills alongside experienced athletes.
